Welcome to Preserving Cultural Heritage: The Art of Tapari Making 2023

Workshop Overview

Tapari is a leaf plate used in Nepal in marriages, and religious rituals to serve food or as a container to offer food. Tapari is nowadays also used in urban fast food stalls in cities like Kathmandu. In order to revive this cultural aspect of Nepali people, we introduced the Tapari Making Workshop. This workshop will enhance the use of such plates and also spread the awareness.

Learning Outcomes

  • Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the diminishing cultural heritage of Nepal and the importance of preserving traditional arts and crafts.
  • Participants will learn about the traditional techniques and skills involved in making Taparis and have the opportunity to make their own plates.
  • Participants will gain an appreciation for the environmental benefits of using biodegradable plates and the role that Tapari making plays in promoting sustainable practices.
  • Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the potential for entrepreneurship in this craft and how artisans can create their own businesses selling Taparis.

A film will also be screened to provide additional context and information on the topic. which would provide a visual representation of the information covered in the workshop and help to engage and inspire participants.
